Next Friday 22 February 2008 is “Work Your Proper Hours Day”. Click on the TUC website “Worksmart” to take part in a quiz, rate your work place and download posters. The serious issue is our “long hour’s culture”, work life balance and risk from excessive occupational stress. However, you can send your boss a secret “boss-a-gram” and describe your experiences on a TUC “rant blog”. On the site you can also check you are paying the correct income tax and national insurance rate and work out how much you should pay into your pension. As well as other interesting stuff.
“Work Your Proper Hours Day (22 Feb 2008) is the day when the average person who does unpaid overtime finishes the unpaid days they do every year, and starts earning for themselves. We think that's a day worth celebrating!"
Nearly five million people in the UK regularly do unpaid overtime, giving their employers an average £4,955 of free work a year. If you're one, why not take some time to reflect on how well (or badly) you're balancing your life?
This is one day in the year to make the most of your own time. Take a proper lunch break and leave work on time to enjoy your Friday evening - You deserve it! "

Oh dear Anon please grow up won’t you! I have spent years working in the private sector as well as the public sector. The vast majority of workers in both sectors are very committed, hard working and work far more than their contractual hours to the detriment of their health and their families...
I only wish the very highly paid “risk committee” of Northern Rock et al had actually what they were suppose to do in their “working hours”.

Yes, you are quite tight that enlightened employers do realise that excessive working hours hurts the bottom line!
Everyone knows that working for local Govt is for deadbeats that can't hack it in the real world...people with zero drive...but plenty of sick time off. Just go to your local council offices to make an enquiry, or better still make a complaint..total waste of time and money..we need less people in Govt

I have recently had a series of weird and wonderful experiences dealing with the so called customer service giants Expedia, Amazon and Tesco. They made me want to pine for good old British Leyland! (Ok - not really)
This could only be written by an ex -public service employee! If you had not been Tupe'd you'd still be wallowing in state gravy, deluding yourself that you were somehow making a contribution to society by being as obstructive as possible. I bet you not in a job where you are expected to contribute to profit. You strike me as a spender...more state subsidies please! Get a life.

In both my recent jobs I feel that I have made a contribution to society. I am sure that many hackney taxi drivers such as you also feel this way. My current employer does want to generate profits to enable further investments and improvements for our residents.
